the story,

Behind this piece

Sanganeri printing is one of Rajasthan's most enduring textile traditions, rooted in the town of Sanganer, just south of Jaipur. For centuries, the chhipa community of block printers has pressed hand-carved wooden blocks into natural pigments, laying repeat motifs of florals, butis, and geometric borders onto fine cotton. The vegetable dyes used here, drawn from sources such as indigo, pomegranate rind, and madder root, are absorbed slowly into the weave, producing colours that soften and deepen with each wash. Five skirts in one lot means five quiet, wearable arguments for slow fashion.

to wear it,

How to style

Wrap each skirt differently across the week. Pair the deeper-toned prints with a hand-spun khadi kurta in ivory and flat Kolhapuri sandals for a relaxed weekend afternoon. A lighter floral Sanganeri pairs beautifully with a tucked cotton blouse and terracotta bead jewellery for a cultural gathering or heritage market visit. For a rooftop evening, choose the most graphic print, layer a fine cotton dupatta over one shoulder, and add oxidised silver jhumkas. The wrap silhouette adjusts to every body and occasion; no tailoring required, only intention.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand-wash each skirt separately in cold water during the first three washes, as vegetable dyes settle gradually into the cotton fibre and may release a little colour initially. Use a mild, pH-neutral soap rather than detergent. Do not wring; press gently between clean towels and dry flat in shade to preserve both dye and weave integrity. Avoid prolonged soaking. Iron on medium heat while slightly damp to restore the crisp hand of the cotton. Store folded loosely, away from direct light, and the colours will continue to mellow beautifully over years of wear.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
