Behind this piece
The sacred invocation "Jai Shree Ram" has long been woven, printed, and embroidered across devotional textiles in northern India, from the ghats of Ayodhya to the pilgrimage corridors of Varanasi. Art silk, a lustrous regenerated fibre that democratised the sheen of pure silk, became the preferred ground for mass devotional embroidery because it holds colour brilliantly and drapes with quiet grace. These scarves carry that tradition forward: five pieces sharing a single spiritual intent, made for gifting, for ritual, and for the quiet dignity of everyday devotion. Heritage need not always be rare to be meaningful.
How to style
Drape one loosely over the shoulders during morning puja, paired with a simple cotton kurta in ivory or saffron. For festive occasions such as Ram Navami or Diwali gatherings, layer one over a silk kurta and finish with gold jhumkas and kolhapuri sandals. A second scarf gifted to a guest becomes an act of blessing in itself. For the diaspora household, keep one folded near a home altar, or wear one over western separates in ochre or cream tones to carry devotion gently into the everyday.
Fabric & care
Art silk is delicate and responds poorly to heat and agitation. Hand wash each scarf separately in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, using gentle pressing motions rather than wringing or scrubbing. Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear. Roll in a clean cotton towel to remove excess moisture, then lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight, which can cause colour shift over time. Never tumble dry. Store flat or loosely rolled in breathable cotton muslin, away from humidity. With careful handling, art silk retains its sheen across many years of use.
