Behind this piece
Patchwork as a textile language predates industrialisation across the Indian subcontinent. In Rajasthan and Gujarat, offcuts of block-printed cotton were never discarded; they were reassembled into something richer than the original cloth. This lot of five clutches draws on that same philosophy of abundance through accumulation. Each bag carries a conversation between printed fragments, geometric or floral, set against the honest weight of pure cotton. No two panels are identical. The craft is democratic and ancient, born from the bazaars of Jaipur and the courtyard workshops where nothing was wasted and everything was considered.
How to style
Carry one with a cotton mul kurta and wide-leg trousers for a gallery opening or a Sunday market. The printed patchwork reads beautifully against solid weaves, so pair it with an unembellished chanderi dupatta in ivory or dusty rose. For festive occasions, tuck it under your arm alongside a tissue silk anarkali; let the clutch do the talking. Complement with oxidised silver jhumkas and flat kolhapuris in tan leather. These five bags rotate across a season effortlessly, each suited to a different mood without demanding a different wardrobe.
Fabric & care
Pure cotton breathes but it also absorbs, so attend to stains promptly with cold water and a mild soap, never a harsh detergent. Hand-wash in cool water; machine washing risks distorting the patchwork seams over time. Do not wring. Press flat on a towel and dry in shade to preserve the depth of the block prints. Iron on a medium setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the printed surface. Store in a cotton pouch, away from direct light, to prevent fading. Handled with care, cotton only improves with age.
