the story,

Behind this piece

Sanganeri printing traces its roots to Sanganer, a small town on the outskirts of Jaipur in Rajasthan, where block-printing families have worked the same carved wooden blocks for generations. The craft flourished under Rajput patronage and later found favour with Mughal courts, its delicate floral motifs and fine repeat patterns becoming synonymous with refined restraint. Vegetable dyes drawn from indigo, pomegranate rind, and madder root give each print its characteristic softness: colours that breathe rather than shout. A wrap-around midi cut honours the textile's drape, letting the pattern move as it was always intended to.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear one skirt belted over a plain white cotton kurta for a Jaipur bazaar morning, finishing with Kolhapuri chappals and silver toe rings. For an evening gathering, layer the skirt beneath a sheer chanderi dupatta draped at the shoulder, pairing with oxidised jhumkas. The wrap silhouette works equally well styled with a fitted linen shirt tucked low and block-printed espadrilles for a diaspora summer lunch. Rotate all five across a fortnight wardrobe: the coordinating vegetable-dye palette means skirts mix without clashing, building an effortless capsule rooted in one coherent craft tradition.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand wash separately in cold water during the first two washes, as vegetable dyes settle gradually rather than bleeding permanently. Use a mild, pH-neutral soap and avoid wringing; press the water out gently. Dry flat in shade, never direct sunlight, which fades plant-based pigments faster than any laundering will. Once the dyes have set, machine washing on a delicate cycle is acceptable. Store folded, not hung, to preserve the wrap ties and prevent fabric bias from distorting. Pure cotton breathes and softens beautifully with each wash, gaining character rather than losing it over years of careful wear.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
