the story,

Behind this piece

Bandhini is among Rajasthan's oldest textile traditions, practised with particular devotion in Jaipur and Jodhpur by the Khatri community, whose hands have tied, resisted, and dyed cotton and silk for centuries. The craft begins before colour touches cloth: tiny points of fabric are bound with thread, creating resist patterns that bloom only after the dye bath is lifted. These masks carry that same unhurried logic, each tie-dye motif a small argument for slowness in a fast world. Two layers of pure cotton ensure breathability without sacrificing the integrity of the hand-crafted surface.

to wear it,

How to style

Pair the deeper indigo or madder-red variants with a hand-block-printed cotton kurta from Bagru for a considered, tonal Rajasthani palette. For casual outings, wear a mustard or coral piece against a plain white mulmul shirt and slip-on Kolhapuri sandals. When attending a daytime wedding function, coordinate with a Chanderi silk dupatta and jhumka earrings in oxidised silver, letting the bandhini dots echo the texture of the weave. The masks work especially well with natural-dye wardrobes, where their honest, undistorted colour sits comfortably among other craft textiles.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand-wash each mask separately in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Bandhini dyes, though set, benefit from the gentleness of cold washing, which preserves the depth of colour in the resist-printed dots. Do not wring; press gently between a clean towel and dry flat in shade to prevent shrinkage and colour migration. Pure cotton breathes but weakens under prolonged direct sunlight. Iron on a medium cotton setting while slightly damp for best results. Store in a cotton pouch or muslin envelope, never in plastic, to allow the fibre to breathe between uses.
