the story,

Behind this piece

Pilkhuwa, a quiet town in Hapur district along the upper Gangetic plain, has long been the quiet engine of India's printed textile trade. Known for its block-printing and now digital-printing traditions on cotton and cotton-blend fabrics, its workshops translate folk vocabulary into wearable surface. This skirt carries that lineage: elephants rendered in ceremonial procession and flowers blooming in repeating rhythm, printed with vegetable-derived dyes onto a breathable poly-cotton ground. The motifs echo the decorative grammar of north Indian folk art, where animals and flora are never merely ornamental but carry a quiet, enduring symbolism.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear the Flame Scarlet or Ruby Wine colourway with a fitted ivory cotton kurta and Kolhapuri sandals for an afternoon market visit. The Golden Orange reads beautifully against a hand-block-printed indigo kantha jacket for cooler evenings. For the Moonlit Ocean, pair with a crisp white cotton blouse, silver oxidised jhumkas from Rajasthan, and tan leather mojris to let the print carry the conversation. The elastic or drawstring waist accommodates movement freely, making all three combinations as practical for a cultural festival as for a relaxed weekend afternoon.

to last,

Fabric & care

Poly-cotton holds colour well but benefits from gentle handling. Machine wash on a delicate cycle in cold water, or hand wash with a mild, pH-neutral detergent to protect the vegetable-dye palette. Wash dark and light colourways separately for the first two washes. Do not tumble dry. Lay flat or hang in shade away from direct sunlight, which can fade digital prints over time. Iron on a medium setting while slightly damp. Store folded loosely in a breathable cotton bag rather than compressed in a drawer, to preserve the fabric's hand and the print's clarity.
