the story,

Behind this piece

Aari embroidery takes its name from the fine hooked needle, the aari, which craftspeople in Kashmir and parts of Lucknow draw through fabric with extraordinary precision. Here, that needle traces floral bouquets and paisley forms across ivory viscose rayon, building each motif in delicate chain-stitch loops. The bisht silhouette itself carries a long lineage across South Asian and West Asian dress traditions, worn as a graceful overrobe. In this piece, both histories converge: the open-fronted bisht becomes a canvas for the patient, unhurried language of aari work rendered entirely in tonal white on white.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this bisht over a fitted ivory or cream churidar and silk kameez for a formal mehendi or engagement ceremony, adding pearl chandelier earrings and ivory kitten-heel mojris. For a contemporary editorial look, layer it over wide-leg ivory palazzo trousers and a simple white bandhej blouse, finishing with oxidised silver cuffs. On cooler evenings, pair it with a deep-toned silk kurta in dusty rose or sage, letting the white embroidery act as quiet contrast; block-heeled kolhapuris in tan leather complete the pairing without competing.

to last,

Fabric & care

Viscose rayon is a semi-natural fibre that holds moisture readily, making it vulnerable to distortion when wet. Hand wash in cold water with a mild pH-neutral detergent, working gently to avoid stretching the fabric. Never wring; press the garment between two clean towels to remove excess water. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which yellows white viscose over time. Press on a low setting with a pressing cloth to protect the aari chain-stitching. Store folded, not hung, to prevent the fabric from stretching at the shoulders.
