Description
There are devotions that one carries close to the throat, and this is one of them. The Panch Mukhi form of Ganesha, five-faced and sovereign over the five directions, has been revered in South Indian temple traditions for centuries. Here, that ancient iconography is recast in sterling silver, worked into a pendant of considerable presence: three and a half inches tall and nearly two inches wide (approximately 8.6 cm by 4.6 cm), its surface suggesting the kind of detailed hand-finishing that belongs to the silversmith's quieter register. Five distinct faces radiate outward with calm authority, the whole composition suspended from a multi-strand white cord necklace on an adjustable dori that sits comfortably at seventeen inches. The matching earrings, each one and a half inches tall by just over a centimetre wide (approximately 3.8 cm by 1.5 cm), carry a smaller echo of the same iconography. The full set weighs one hundred and seven grams, substantial enough to feel ceremonial on the body. For Diwali puja or a housewarming, wear this over ivory silk or a cream Kanjivaram, letting the silver read against pale ground. For a diaspora wedding abroad, it grounds a modern ivory co-ord with something unambiguously rooted. The adjustable dori accommodates varying necklines without alteration. Sterling silver at this weight is durable enough for repeat seasonal wear, and the matte-to-bright finish common to hand-worked silver requires only a soft cloth to maintain its quiet luminosity.
