Description

There is a particular honesty to uncut stone, and this necklace and earrings set understands it completely. Polki, in its truest form, asks nothing of the stone except that it remain itself. Here, uneven-cut Polki pieces are set across a brass choker in the manner that Jaipur's ateliers have practised for generations, where the stone's natural planes and imperfections become the ornament rather than an apology for it. Brass, long the foundation of accessible Polki work before gold was within reach, carries this tradition honestly and without pretence. The choker sits close to the throat, measuring roughly two centimetres in height and approximately fifteen centimetres across, and extends via an adjustable chain so that the neckline can be managed with precision. The paired earrings, each measuring approximately two and a half centimetres tall and one and a half centimetres wide, mirror the necklace's placement of stone against warm metal. The complete set weighs eighty grams, a presence that is felt rather than burdened. For a silk kurta in ivory or deep wine, this set offers the kind of contrast that photographs remember.
