Description

There are prayers that are worn, not merely spoken. This mala carries the trishul and damru, two of Shaivism's most potent symbols, cast in warm brass and strung through genuine rudraksha beads whose natural, seed-brown surfaces carry the ridged grooves that mark each bead's sacred origin. The trishul pendant anchors the piece with quiet authority, its three prongs rising above the layered damru form in a composition that belongs to a long vernacular of devotional jewellery made across temple towns from Varanasi to Nagercoil. Brass, chosen here over silver or gold, is itself historically bound to ritual: it is the metal of temple bells, of diyas, of offerings. The weight is honest, sitting at thirty-two grams, a presence that is felt without being burdensome. The finish is unpolished in spirit, retaining the muted, antique warmth that age and intention give to devotional objects. Wear it over a plain cotton kurta on a day of quiet observance, or layer it atop a silk angavastram for Mahashivratri or Shravan puja. It reads equally well with contemporary linen separates when worn as an expression of considered, spiritual identity. The mala measures fourteen inches, approximately thirty-five-and-a-half centimetres, and fits as a close-to-collar piece on most necklines. It is free size and needs no clasp adjustment. Brass is low maintenance; a soft dry cloth preserves the lustre between wearings.
