Description

There are places in India where adornment is still a language spoken without translation. This tribal-style necklace draws from a long tradition of community craft in which colour itself is the jewel. Strands of vivid, multicolour beads are strung and knotted with precision, each segment of the composition weighted and balanced so the piece sits as a considered whole rather than a scattering of colour. The beadwork speaks to traditions alive across Rajasthan, Kutch and the tribal belts of central India, where women have long threaded glass, bone and resin beads into layered statements of identity and celebration. Here, that vocabulary is translated into something wearable beyond ceremony. The necklace closes with a thread tie at the nape, a detail that is itself part of the craft heritage, allowing the length to be adjusted around the standard thirteen inches (approximately 33 cm). At 260 grams, the piece carries a satisfying, grounded weight on the chest. Wear it over a hand-block-printed mul cotton kurta for a Sunday afternoon that carries meaning, or layer it against an off-white chikankari ensemble at a mehendi where you want your jewellery to tell its own story rather than echo someone else's. The thread closure means the necklace fits a range of necklines without the inflexibility of a metal clasp. A free-size construction and tactile, non-metallic materials make it equally kind in warm weather and to skin that prefers to stay away from cold settings.
