Description
There are necklaces that announce themselves, and there are those that simply belong. This Kundan set is rooted in the flat-setting tradition that flourished in the royal ateliers of Jaipur, where karigars pressed uncut glass stones or polished gems into a lac-filled gold or, here, brass framework with a precision that borders on ritual. The base is brass, warm-toned and substantial at eighty-three grams, worked into a layered necklace whose silhouette recalls the broad, ceremonial collars of Rajput portraiture. Each panel is filled with Kundan-set stones, their foiled undersides catching light from within rather than merely reflecting it off the surface. The earrings, measuring approximately four centimetres in height and two centimetres in width, mirror the necklace's geometry in miniature, preserving the visual grammar of the full composition. The necklace itself measures roughly twenty-three centimetres in length and is finished with an adjustable dori, a detail that keeps the piece honestly within its artisanal tradition. Worn over a deep-red Banarasi silk for a winter wedding, or layered against the ivory of a chanderi kurta at a festive evening gathering, this set reads as considered rather than costumed; it carries occasion without demanding it. The adjustable dori accommodates most necklines without alteration, making fit genuinely flexible. The brass construction keeps the weight wearable across a long evening, and the Kundan setting, sealed within its framework, requires only gentle storage to hold its lustre.
