Description

A crown does not always rest on the head; sometimes it cascades down the parting. This damini belongs to the vocabulary of Rajasthani bridal adornment, where a mathapatti and maang tikka are conceived not as two separate pieces but as one continuous conversation in Kundan. Set into a warm brass base, the flat-foiled Kundan stones are pressed into gold-toned bezels by hand, each unit worked to lie flush against the forehead and scalp with the precise, unhurried patience that Jaipur's Kundan karigars have practised across generations. The mathapatti runs 12.2 inches (roughly 31 cm) in length, draping the hairline in a garland of set stones, while the maang tikka rises 4 inches (approximately 10 cm) in height and measures 1.2 inches (about 3 cm) across its centrepiece, the two elements together weighing 76 grams, substantial enough to announce their presence with quiet authority. Wear this damini with a heavy silk lehenga for a wedding or sangeet, where the brass warmth reads as antique gold against deep reds and emerald greens. It is equally persuasive over an ivory or off-white Banarasi saree, where its ornamental density becomes the single point of conversation. The piece is free size, secured and adjusted through traditional tie-and-drape fittings suited to most head measurements. The brass construction keeps the weight manageable across a long ceremonial day, and the Kundan settings require only gentle storage away from moisture to hold their lustre.
