Description

There is a particular clarity that belongs only to tourmaline, and the Israel-cut rondell captures it completely. Each bead in this strand has been faceted using the Israel cut, a precision-grinding method associated with the diamond-cutting workshops of Tel Aviv that was later adopted for coloured gemstones seeking brilliance without weight. Applied to tourmaline, a stone prized across the gem markets of Jaipur for its spectrum of pinks, greens and bicolour shifts, the technique coaxes light through every facet of the rondell's shallow, disc-shaped profile. The result is a strand of approximately 195 beads, each averaging 1.5 mm across, strung to a 13.5-inch length (roughly 34 cm) and weighing a neat 10 grams in hand. No metal obscures the stone. The bead itself is the jewel, and the string presents it without apology. Worn close at the throat, this strand reads as a refined finishing note against a raw-silk kurta in ivory or champagne. Layered over a deep-toned linen shirt for an evening gathering, it introduces colour without complication, letting the tourmaline's natural variation do the work that embroidery might otherwise claim. Free-sized and lightweight at 10 grams, the strand sits without strain across an afternoon or an evening. The rondell format means no sharp edges press against the collarbone, and the precision-cut facets remain bright without polishing. A knot or simple clasp at the nape keeps the length clean and the beads secure.
