Description

There are wings in the silver, and they are always mid-flight. Carved from sterling silver and set with Tibetan turquoise, these jhumkis carry the quiet authority of high-altitude craft traditions, where stone and metal have long spoken a shared language of protection and beauty. The butterfly motif crowns the piece with open wings, each panel catching light across a hand-worked surface before the silhouette narrows into the jhumki bell below. Tibetan turquoise, celebrated for its distinctive matrix and its deep blue-green depth, sits at the heart of the setting, its colour neither uniform nor predictable, which is precisely its value. The piece measures approximately 4.6 cm in height by 2.8 cm in width and 1.65 cm in depth, and weighs a considered 29 grams, substantial enough to hang with presence without pulling at the lobe. Wear these with a cream Chanderi kurta at a festive lunch, where the turquoise reads as a studied accent against ivory. They are equally at home with a silk kantha stole thrown over a linen dress for an arts opening or an evening gallery visit. The standard free-size hook closure suits most ear piercings and requires no adjustment. Sterling silver at this weight acquires a gentle warmth with regular wear; a soft cloth and occasional airing are all the care these jhumkis ask for in return for years of faithful company.
