Description

There are dances that hold the entire cosmos in a single gesture. This lapel pin captures Nataraja mid-Tandava, the raised leg and encircling flame-ring rendered in warm, oxidised brass that carries the weight of South Indian iconographic tradition without requiring temple walls to justify it. The figure stands three inches tall (approximately 7.6 cm) and just over an inch wide (approximately 3.4 cm), a proportion that honours the sculptural canon while remaining wearable at the lapel. Brass, the metal of sacred vessels and ritual lamps from Thanjavur to Nagercoil, is the right material here. Its golden-brown warmth deepens the drama of the form, the matted locks fanning outward, the Damaru in one hand, the flame in another. At twelve grams, the pin has genuine heft, the kind that tells you something real has been made. Pin it to the left lapel of a raw-silk kurta for a formal cultural evening, or anchor it to a structured linen blazer worn to a gallery opening or a literary festival. Both pairings let the motif do its work without competition. The piece is free-sized by nature and arrives ready to wear, secured by a standard pin back. Oxidised brass develops character gradually with use, softening slightly over time rather than fading. A light wipe with a dry cloth keeps it clean. At under two and a half thousand rupees, it is one of the more honest things you can put on.
