Description

Devotion, distilled into silver and set with the quiet glow of amethystine stone. Rendered in superfine sterling silver by hands schooled in the South Indian temple tradition, this kumkum box pendant carries a relief of Goddess Lakshmi at its centre, her form worked with the fine line and frontal dignity that Nagercoil and the broader Thanjavur corridor have long made their own. The box itself, measuring approximately 4.3 cm in height and 3.6 cm in width and length, is a functional sanctum: the hinged lid opens to hold kumkum, sindoor or sacred ash, making the jewellery an object of daily ritual as much as adornment. Purple stone accents, cool against the burnished silver, frame the goddess with a restrained, almost architectural precision. At 66 grams, the weight carries the seriousness of solid sterling, not hollow work. Wear it against the ivory silk of a Kanjivaram or a deep-hued Chanderi for a wedding mehendi or a Lakshmi Puja gathering. On quieter days, it settles equally well over a fine cotton kurta, the silver reading as heirloom rather than occasion piece. The free-size bail fits most chain widths, and sterling silver of this purity responds well to a soft cloth and occasional silver polish. The hinged closure is snug enough for daily carry, meaning the box keeps its contents secure through movement without demanding ceremony.
