Description
There are forms of patience that become art, and Tarakasi filigree is one of them. Practised for centuries along the coast of Odisha, Tarakasi is the rare craft of drawing sterling silver into threads so fine they seem spun rather than worked. In this pendant and earrings set, those threads are coaxed and twisted into an intricate latticed composition, each motif built wire by wire without a single casting or mould. The pendant stands nearly six and a half centimetres tall, a generous, statement-scale form that holds its geometry with quiet authority. The matching earrings, measuring roughly two and a half centimetres in height by two centimetres in width, echo the same open lacework. The finish is the natural burnished white of sterling silver itself, unplated and honest, revealing every deliberate curl of the filigree within. The complete set weighs thirty grams, a testament to how much visual density these karigars achieve through air and structure rather than mass. Worn over a deep-toned silk kurta or a fine cotton handloom sari, the open weave of the filigree catches light without competing with the textile. For a contemporary gathering, pair it with a linen blazer over a plain camisole and allow the pendant to do the speaking. The earrings are free size and suitable for standard piercings. Sterling silver of this quality develops a warm patina with wear; a soft cloth is all that is needed to restore its original brightness between occasions.
