Description

There are pieces that ask nothing of you except that you notice them. This necklace is worked in sterling silver, its surface shaped into a slender, articulated chain that settles close to the collarbone at nine and a half inches, approximately twenty-four centimetres, and weighs just six grams against the skin. The stones set along its length are green aquamarine and tourmaline, colours that sit somewhere between a rain-washed forest and the pale interior of a sea glass, depending on the light. Sterling silver as a medium belongs to a long tradition of gemstone-set silverwork practised across Rajasthan and the hills of the north-east, where craftsmen have long understood that silver, unlike gold, does not compete with transparent stones but holds them honestly, letting colour speak. The setting here is restrained and precise, each stone seated cleanly so that the tourmaline's natural variation reads across the full length of the piece. Wear it with a fine cotton kurta in ivory or pale grey for an afternoon that moves between a gallery and a quiet lunch. It works equally well tucked against the neckline of a silk slip dress for an evening that requires something understated and considered rather than ornate. The necklace is free-sized and suited to most necklines. At six grams, it carries no perceptible weight through a long day. Sterling silver rewards occasional polishing with a soft cloth, and the piece is well suited to daily rotation.
