Description

There are regions where silver has always spoken louder than gold, and this necklace carries that quiet confidence. Weighing a substantial 45 grams, the piece is worked in sterling silver, a metal long favoured by the silversmiths of Rajasthan and the tribal jewellery traditions of central India for its cool lustre and willingness to hold intricate surface detail. Coral and turquoise sit together here as they have for centuries in Tibetan-influenced and Rajasthani ceremonial jewellery, the warm burnt-orange of the coral balancing the opaque, sky-washed blue of the turquoise in a pairing that is neither accidental nor merely decorative. The stones are set in what appears to be a bezel or collet arrangement, holding each cabochon securely within the oxidised or polished silver framework. At 10 inches in height (approximately 25.4 cm), this is a statement piece with genuine vertical presence, conceived as a bib or collar-length construction that sits low on the sternum. Wear it over a handloom cotton kurta in ivory or indigo for a museum-quality weekday elegance, or pair it with a silk chanderi dupatta for a festive gathering where you wish to arrive unadorned yet unmistakable. The free-size construction means the necklace works across most necklines without adjustment. Sterling silver at this weight wears with reassuring solidity, and the natural stones require only occasional careful wiping. A piece neither precious nor casual, but precisely, beautifully in between.
