Description

There are stones that hold light the way memory holds feeling, and Ethiopian opal is one of them. These stud earrings are set in sterling silver, a metal prized across the subcontinent for its cool, unassuming weight and its willingness to let the stone speak. The Ethiopian opal at the centre of each piece is a study in quiet spectacle: its play-of-colour shifts between honey, coral and iridescent blue depending on the angle and the hour of the day. Unlike the polished grandiosity of Kundan or the enamel theatrics of Meenakari work from Jaipur, this piece belongs to a quieter lineage, one that trusts the raw beauty of the stone itself and asks the silversmith only to hold it well. The setting is clean and close, allowing the opal's natural fire to fill the frame without distraction. Each earring measures approximately 1.8 cm in height and 0.6 cm in width, and the pair together weighs a precise 3.83 grams, which means they rest on the lobe with almost no perceptible pull. Wear them with a white linen kurta on a still afternoon, or with a fluid silk blouse at an intimate gathering where the conversation is as considered as the company. They move just as easily from a weekday desk to an evening where candlelight is doing the decorating. The free-size post closure suits virtually every ear. Sterling silver cleans simply with a soft cloth, making these earrings a practical companion for daily wear rather than a piece reserved only for occasion.
