Description

There is a kind of jewellery that does not ask for silence; it speaks first. This three-piece parure, comprising necklace, drop earrings and mangtika, is fashioned in brass and finished to evoke the warm, burnished glow of antique gold. The necklace rises to a height of one and a half inches (approximately 3.8 cm), its surface set with coloured stones arranged in a pattern of clustered florals, each stone held in place by close-set prong or bezel work reminiscent of the decorative vocabulary of Rajasthani bridal craft. Beads drop from the earrings and from the mangtika's trailing strand, lending movement and a measured sense of ceremony. The earrings measure two and a quarter inches by one inch (approximately 5.5 cm by 2.5 cm), and the mangtika extends to four and a half inches (approximately 11.7 cm), falling just so at the centre parting. The total set weighs a substantial one hundred and forty-four grams, which speaks to the density of well-made brass work. Worn together, this set transforms a heritage silk lehenga into something fully composed; worn piecemeal, the mangtika alone lifts an ivory Benarasi for a mehendi afternoon. The earrings sit with equal ease against a mirror-worked anarkali for a sangeet evening. The brass base is hardy and holds its finish through regular wear. The free-size mangtika chain is adjustable, and the earrings carry standard hooks suited to most piercings.
