Description

She has always been present at the threshold, in brass and prayer and the colour of abundance. Temple jewellery from South India carries a devotional gravity that few other traditions can match. This necklace and earring set centres on Goddess Lakshmi, rendered in brass and set with stones whose cool tones are warmed by the metal's oxidised finish. Green bead drops fall from both the pendant and the earrings, echoing the sacred tulsi and the prosperity Lakshmi herself embodies. The pendant measures 6.4 cm tall and 4.3 cm wide, a substantial devotional medallion suspended on an adjustable dori that reaches approximately 20.8 cm at its longest. The earrings, at 6.4 cm tall and 2.5 cm wide, mirror the pendant's proportions with the same stone-studded border and bead fringe. Brass, long favoured in temple workshops of Nagercoil and coastal Tamil Nadu for its resonance with sacred iconography, gives this set its warm, antique lustre.
