Description

There are jewels that remember where they come from. Sambalpuri fabric, woven in the ikat-dyed tradition of Odisha's Sambalpur district, carries within its threads a geometry that has travelled through generations of loom-workers and dyers. Here, that textile intelligence is translated into a choker set: the necklace band, roughly one inch (approximately 2.5 cm) in height, is constructed over an MDF base and wrapped in handloom Sambalpuri fabric whose characteristic resist-dyed patterns give the surface its graphic, unhurried rhythm. Small stones, set directly into the fabric face, catch light without pretension, while seed beads edge the form with a finishing detail that speaks of patient hands rather than machine precision. The earrings, one inch (approximately 2.5 cm) in height and half an inch (approximately 1.3 cm) in width, echo the necklace's proportion exactly. The full set weighs just fourteen grams, sitting lightly against the collarbone. Available in blue, green, red and yellow, each colourway reflects a different mood of the ikat palette. Wear the red with a cream cotton kurta and block-printed dupatta for a weekend afternoon; or choose the deep blue against a silk chanderi blouse for an evening gathering where the textile-on-textile conversation is the point. Free-sized and fastened with a standard closure, this set requires no adjustment. The MDF backing keeps the choker firm against the neck.
