Description
A fluting Krishna, tenderly accompanied by his cow, rendered in brass that carries the quiet gravity of devotional craft. The central medallion of this necklace presents Krishna in his most beloved pastoral form, the murliwala at rest, surrounded by the gentle presence of a cow at his side. Across the surface, coloured stones are set in close formation, their placement echoing the tradition of temple jewellery from South India, where figural devotional ornament has long been shaped in brass before being enriched with mineral colour. Beadwork frames and connects, lending rhythm to the twelve-inch (approximately thirty centimetres) chain. The earrings, standing two inches (approximately five centimetres) tall and measuring just under one centimetre in width, mirror the necklace's vocabulary of stone and bead. The entire set weighs fifty-two grams, a presence that is felt without being burdensome. The brass base, warm and ungilt, gives the piece an antique character that no plating could replicate. Wear this necklace with a silk ikkat blouse and a cotton Chanderi sari for a temple visit or a family puja. It reads equally well against the neckline of a hand-block-printed kurta at a festive gathering, where its devotional iconography becomes a quiet conversation. The free-size design requires no adjustment. The earring width, at roughly half a centimetre, suits most piercings comfortably. The brass holds its finish well with simple dry storage, making this a piece one returns to with ease.
