Description

Rain, caught mid-fall, and stilled into silver. The umbrella has long been a motif of auspice and shelter across Indian decorative traditions, appearing in temple friezes, folk textiles and ceremonial regalia. Here, in sterling silver, that ancient symbol is rendered as a chandelier drop: a canopied form that fans outward from a central axis, its layered silhouette evoking the ribbed spread of a rain-shade held aloft. The finish is clean and luminous, as sterling silver at this gauge tends to be, catching light without the weight of heavier ornament. Each piece measures 1.6 inches in height (approximately 4 cm), weighs a precise 2 grams, and is offered in free size, meaning the pendant form adapts to any chain or cord a wearer chooses to pair it with. The craft is restrained and urban in character, closer to contemporary Indian silver work than to the encrusted grandeur of Jaipur Kundan or Bikaner Meenakari, but no less considered for its simplicity. Wear this pendant on a delicate silver chain with a hand-block-printed cotton kurta for a museum afternoon, or layer it against a cream silk blouse at an intimate gathering where quieter jewellery speaks loudest. At 2 grams, the piece sits weightlessly at the collarbone and will not strain a fine chain. The sterling silver construction makes it suitable for daily wear, and the motif, neither seasonal nor occasion-specific, earns its place as a quietly permanent resident of the jewellery box.
