Description

The serpent has always known how to carry itself. In Indian jewellery tradition, the snake is not ornament alone; it is symbol, protector and living form. This sterling silver necklace honours that ancient vocabulary with a sinuous body rendered in solid sterling, its scales or segments articulating the curve of a coiled or linked serpent silhouette. Sterling silver, worked at this weight of sixty-seven grams, carries a satisfying presence on the throat. The metal here is left to do its own speaking: cool, bright, unhurried. Unlike the gem-laden serpents of Mughal Jadau or the enamelled naag motifs of Jaipur Meenakari, this piece chooses restraint, placing its faith entirely in form and in the intrinsic quality of sterling silver craftsmanship. The result is a necklace that reads as both archaic and entirely contemporary. Wear it against a silk ivory kurta for a dinner where the conversation matters as much as the table. Or draw it over a fine cotton sari blouse in the afternoon, letting the silver catch the light without competing with colour or weave. At seventeen and a half inches in length (approximately forty-four and a half centimetres), the necklace sits comfortably at the collarbone on most frames. Free-sized and complete as worn, it requires no adjustment. The sterling construction means daily wear will build a gentle patina rather than diminish the piece; a soft cloth restores its brightness whenever required.
