Description

There are earrings that carry a landscape within them, and these are among that rare kind. The jhumki is one of India's most enduring silhouettes, a dome-shaped bell that has moved through courts and village fairs alike without ever losing its dignity. Here it is rendered in sterling silver, the surface worked with quiet confidence, carrying stones of Tibetan turquoise whose colour sits somewhere between sky and sea, never quite settling on either. Turquoise has long been treasured across the Himalayan trade routes, prized for the particular warmth it lends to silver, and in this pairing the two materials seem entirely inevitable. The setting allows the stones to read clearly against the metal, and the overall silhouette, at two and a half inches tall (approximately 6.4 cm) with a width of just under an inch (approximately 1.8 cm), moves with genuine presence without tipping into excess. Each pair weighs twenty-nine grams, a reassuring solidity on the ear. Wear these with a block-printed Ajrakh kurta for an afternoon that calls for considered ease, or let them be the single strong note beside a raw silk sari in ivory or deep ochre for an evening gathering. The hook fitting makes daily fastening effortless, and the depth of just under two centimetres means the jhumki swings freely without catching on collars or dupattas. Sterling silver ages honestly, and a light polish is all these earrings will ever ask of you.
