Description

There are mornings when a single piece of jewellery carries the whole mood of the day. The butterfly has long been a favourite motif among silver karígars who work in the oxidised and semi-precious traditions, and here it arrives fully formed in sterling silver, each wing rendered with the kind of deliberate linework that only hand-finishing allows. Arizona turquoise, prized for its deep sky-to-teal spectrum and the fine matrix that runs through each stone, is set at the heart of the design, grounding the lightness of the butterfly form with genuine mineral weight. The jhumki silhouette, that most beloved of subcontinental drops, hangs below, its bell-shaped body continuing the silver's warm oxidised finish into a satisfying, rounded conclusion. At twenty-nine grams, the piece announces itself without being burdensome. The earring measures approximately four and a half centimetres in height by nearly three centimetres in width, with a depth of just under two centimetres, proportions generous enough to read beautifully from across a room. Wear these with a fine Chanderi kurta in ivory or dusty rose for a lunch that asks for something considered. They are equally at home against an indigo block-print dress at an evening gathering where the silver and turquoise hold their own without competing. The sterling silver hook closure sits close to the ear and is comfortable through long hours. The oxidised finish resists daily dulling and needs only occasional gentle polishing with a soft cloth to stay at its best.
