Description

Ancient civilisations knew that the smallest bead of fused metal could hold an entire world. This sterling silver tube bead is a study in granulation, one of the oldest metalworking disciplines known to the subcontinent. Tiny spheres of fine silver are fused to the surface of a hollow cylindrical form without solder, relying instead on a controlled heat technique that leaves no seam, no joint, no evidence of labour beyond the finished texture itself. The result is a surface that reads almost like sea foam caught in metal: matte, dimensional, quietly luminous. At fifty-two millimetres in height and ten millimetres in width, the tube carries real presence without heaviness, and at ten grams it remains comfortable as a pendant centrepiece or a strung component on a longer cord. The tradition of granulated silverwork draws from ancient South Asian and Middle Eastern practice, echoed today in workshops across Rajasthan and the Deccan, where the craft of fusing granules survives as a rigorous, patient discipline. Wear a single piece strung on a raw silk cord against an unstitched ivory kota sari for a quietly archaeological sensibility. Alternatively, string three together on oxidised silver chain over a deep indigo block-print kurta for textural layering that rewards a second look. The free-size format means the bead slides and adjusts on most cord thicknesses. The sterling silver construction resists tarnish with ordinary care, and the granulated finish conceals minor surface wear gracefully over time, ageing into beauty rather than away from it.
