Description

There is a particular pleasure in silver worn close to the skin, small and sure of itself. The bean is one of the oldest motifs in Indian adornment, its rounded, swelling form echoing the seed and all the abundance that implies. Here, rendered in sterling silver, each piece measures six millimetres, a scale that sits quietly rather than announces itself. Sterling silver, with its characteristic cool lustre, takes a smooth, high-polish finish particularly well, and these beans carry that brightness without any applied gilding or stone setting to interrupt the form. The silhouette is self-contained, almost sculptural: a full, gently curved body that catches light the way a river pebble does, unexpectedly and completely. The simplicity belongs to a long tradition of plain silver work found across Indian craft, from the filigree ateliers of Cuttack to the heavier, more utilitarian forms favoured in rural Bengal. Wear them as a single pair threaded on a fine chain for an understated everyday look with a white cotton kurta and minimal gold. Alternatively, stack several pairs at varying lengths against a silk blouse for a more considered, editorial effect at a daytime gathering or a festive lunch. Sold as a price-per-pair, these are free size and require no adjustment. The sterling silver construction makes them resistant to everyday wear, and the polished surface responds well to a soft cloth whenever you wish to restore its original brightness.
