Description

There is a particular kind of light that polki holds: not a flash, but a slow, settled glow. Each round-cut polki stone in this necklace and earring set is set directly into the brass framework in the tradition of unfoiled, uncut diamond work that the craftsmen of Jaipur have long practised in its more accessible, costume-jewellery register. Here, the stones are secured in open-backed collet settings, allowing whatever light falls upon them to pass through and scatter softly. The brass itself is finished to a warm, antique gold tone, lending the piece the unhurried heaviness of heirloom work without the weight of fine metal. At forty-five grams for the full set, the necklace with its adjustable twelve-inch (approximately thirty centimetre) chain sits close to the collarbone, while the drop earrings, measuring one and a half inches (roughly four centimetres) in height and half an inch (approximately one and a quarter centimetres) in width, frame the face without overwhelming it.
