Description

There are fires inside certain stones that no lapidary fully controls. Ethiopian opals occupy a category of their own among play-of-colour gems: formed in volcanic sediment rather than silica-rich groundwater, they carry an inner luminescence that shifts between amber, rust, peacock green and electric blue depending on the angle of light. Here, each stone is round-cut and faceted, a less common treatment for opal that coaxes directional brilliance rather than the diffused glow of a cabochon. The setting is a classic tennis silhouette in sterling silver, every opal held in a close bezel or prong channel that runs the full 7.3 inches (18.5 cm) of the bracelet's length. At just under a tenth of a centimetre in height (0.05 inches, approximately 0.13 cm), the profile sits remarkably flat against the wrist. The silver has been worked with the kind of quiet precision that values continuity of line above ornamentation. Worn alone, this bracelet companions a raw-silk kurta in ivory or stone for a festive lunch with restraint and intention. Layered against a simple cotton sari blouse at a winter evening gathering, the opals catch candlelight in a way that pearls simply cannot replicate. At 11.3 grams, the bracelet carries satisfying weight without fatigue. The free-size construction and secure clasp make it straightforward to wear daily, while sterling silver's durability ensures the setting holds each opal firmly through regular use.
