Description
There are necklaces that adorn, and there are necklaces that announce. This choker set belongs to the Kundan tradition that has flourished in the ateliers of Jaipur for centuries, where molten wax and fine foil are pressed into gold-toned brass to hold each stone with the patience of a craftsman who measures time in settings, not seconds. The centrepiece is a wide, architectural choker, five and a half inches across and nearly as tall, its body composed of teardrop-shaped red stones set in the flat-pressed Kundan manner: no prong, no claw, only the embrace of refined foil and pure setting. The deep crimson of the stones catches light the way old glass does, warmly and without arrogance. Completing the set are long drop earrings, four inches in height, and a maang tikka that falls seven and a half inches along the centre parting, its teardrop terminal echoing the choker's principal motif. The brass base gives the entire ensemble a pleasing solidity, the full set weighing three hundred and fifty grams. Wear this at a winter wedding with a silk tissue lehenga in ivory or deep emerald, where the red stones become the colour story. It is equally at home over a Banarasi kanjeevaram for a mehendi ceremony, grounding rich gold weave with its own jewelled warmth. The choker closes securely at the nape and is offered in a free size that accommodates most necklines. The brass construction ensures durability across long celebration evenings without discomfort.
