Description

She stands at the centre, garlanded and radiant, as she has stood in South Indian temple art for centuries. Wrought in brass and finished to a warm, antique-gold depth, this choker and earring set draws directly from the temple jewellery tradition of craftsmen who have long supplied the sanctum before the street. Goddess Lakshmi anchors the necklace's central pendant, rendered with the density and stillness of a processional ornament. Vivid red stones, set in the manner of traditional kemp work, frame her figure and ripple outward across the choker's surface, each stone chosen for its depth of colour against the burnished brass ground. The earrings, measuring approximately 8.1 cm in height and 4.3 cm in width, repeat the motif at a smaller scale, so deity and devotee seem to echo one another. The full set weighs 197 grams, a presence you feel as intention rather than burden. An adjustable dori at the back means the choker, approximately 8.9 cm long and 10.2 cm wide, sits close to the collarbone without alteration. Wear this set with a deep-red or ivory Kanjivaram silk for a wedding ceremony, or with a cotton kalamkari kurta for a festival lunch where you wish to carry something serious and considered. The dori closure adjusts to most necklines without tools. Brass, properly stored away from moisture, holds its finish well and is gentle enough for a full day's wear.
