Description

There are grooms who wear their joy quietly, and then there are those who let the mala speak first. This bridal groom's mala draws from the festive vocabulary of North Indian shaadi adornment, where bold red beading and ornamental metalwork carry the weight of celebration without apology. Strung across twenty-three inches (approximately 58 cm) of carefully graduated crimson beads, the necklace anchors itself at the chest with a substantial brass brooch, cast and finished to evoke the decorative brasswork long associated with the ceremonial traditions of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The brooch itself commands attention: its surface work speaks to the same instinct that drives temple and antique jewellery, where brass is treated not as a lesser metal but as a warm, living ground for relief and ornamentation. At two hundred and fifty grams, the piece carries genuine presence on the body, the kind of weight a groom feels as a reminder of the occasion itself. Pair it over a deep red or ivory sherwani, letting the brooch sit proud at the centre of a closed collar. It is equally striking against an embroidered Banarasi angarkha in ivory or gold, where the red beading reads as deliberate punctuation rather than excess. Free-sized and clasped for easy wearing, the mala suits most necklines without adjustment. The brass brooch ages gracefully with minimal care, and the beading is strung with the durability a long day of ceremony demands.
