Description

There is a particular grammar to Rajasthani adornment, and this choker speaks it fluently. Rooted in the Kundan tradition that flourished in the royal ateliers of Jaipur and Bikaner, this choker set is worked in brass and set with flat-faceted stones in a deep, saturated green, each held in place by the classic Kundan technique of pressing refined foil between stone and bezel to coax out brilliance without heat. The silhouette is broad and architectural, stretching 8.6 inches (approximately 21.8 cm) in length and 4.3 inches (approximately 10.9 cm) in width, a format associated with the layered bridal throat-pieces of the desert courts. Stylised floral and geometric motifs repeat across the front panel with the measured confidence of a pattern drawn from textile and fresco alike. The matching earrings, 2.6 inches (approximately 6.6 cm) tall and 1.2 inches (approximately 3 cm) wide, and the maang tikka at 4.5 inches (approximately 11.4 cm), complete the parure with symmetrical ease. At 164 grams, the set has real presence without strain. Wear the set over an ivory or ivory-gold Banarasi tissue sari for a wedding or sangeet; it anchors colour beautifully against a red or coral silk lehenga as well. The diaspora bride dressing for a mehendi evening will find it equally at home over a contemporary anarkali. The adjustable dori closure fits most necklines without alteration. Brass construction ensures the structure holds its shape through long occasions, and the free-size design means it sits flat and true without fuss.
