Description

There are nights when the moon does not rise in the sky but rests, instead, at the throat. This necklace is worked in sterling silver, a metal whose cool, bright surface has long suited the lunar quality of rainbow moonstone. The stone earns its name honestly: held to light, its adularescence shifts from white to pale blue to the softest violet, as though cloud and water have been set into a bezel. The setting is clean and deliberate, the kind of silversmithing that does not compete with its stone but frames it with quiet authority. Sterling silver work of this character, precise and unfussy, belongs to a tradition practised across India's silver-working centres, where the metal's natural lustre is preserved rather than obscured. The piece weighs ten grams, substantial enough to feel present, light enough to forget you are wearing it. Wear this necklace at seventeen inches (43 cm) against an ivory silk kurta for a daytime gathering, where the stone's flash will read like a cool punctuation at the neckline. For an evening occasion, let it fall over a dark georgette blouse and allow the moonstone to do its own, unhurried theatre. Free size in length, the necklace suits most necklines without alteration. The sterling silver is resistant to everyday handling, and the bezel protects the stone at its edges. At ten grams, it travels well and settles without weight.
