Description

There is something quietly lunar about a heart cut from moonstone. Rainbow moonstone carries within it a world the gemologists call adularescence: that soft, rolling blue-white light that shifts as the stone moves, as though a cloud were caught mid-breath inside the mineral. These heart-shaped cabochons, each measuring 6 mm, arrive in sets of three, their silhouette the oldest symbol of tenderness rendered in a stone that has long been prized from Sri Lanka to Rajasthan for its spectral, almost water-like glow. The heart form suits moonstone particularly well; the curved, pointed base gathers light at its tip, while the rounded upper lobes hold the blue flash at its most diffuse and dreaming. Free of heavy treatment, these unset stones carry their natural translucency intact, pale and opalescent against the fingertip, each piece slightly individual in the depth of its colour play. A jeweller in Jaipur working in a delicate rawa or plain silver bezel setting would find these cabochons sympathetic to a fine chandelier earring or a layered pendant, worn with ivory chanderi or with a simple white kurta on a winter evening. They would sit equally well within a Meenakari frame, their cool pallor contrasting with warm enamel colours. Sold as a set of three at 6 mm each, these stones are a practical size: substantial enough to hold presence in a finished piece yet refined enough for everyday work. Their heart silhouette requires a round or oval bezel and minimal prong pressure to protect the curved edges.
