Description
There is a particular stillness to brass when it is worked with patience, a warmth that no plating can replicate. This necklace belongs to a tradition of bold, sculptural brasswork that has long thrived in workshops across Rajasthan and Bengal, where the metal is treated not as a substitute but as a material of genuine dignity. Spanning seventeen and a half centimetres in length and just over eight centimetres at its widest point, the piece carries real presence on the body, its weight of seventy-two grams settling with pleasing authority. The construction follows a structured, layered silhouette, the kind associated with tribal and folk-revival craft movements, where geometric repetition and oxidised or raw-brass finishes do the decorative work that gemstones might elsewhere perform. A small ring closure, measuring approximately two and a half centimetres in height and just under two centimetres in width, keeps the fastening discreet and secure. Wear it over a handloom cotton kurta in ivory or rust for a daytime gathering where craft is the conversation; equally, it rewards an evening silk sari in deep teal or aubergine, grounding the look with an honest, ungilded earthiness. The free-size construction means it rests comfortably on most necklines without adjustment. Brass develops a gentle patina with wear, which is part of its character rather than a flaw. A soft dry cloth is all the care it requires. The piece is finished as pictured, in its natural tonal warmth.
