Description

There is something unhurried about a jhumka that swings. This pair draws from the Rajasthani Polki tradition, where uncut stones are set flat against the surface so that natural light, rather than a cutter's geometry, does the work. Here, that sensibility is interpreted in warm brass, a metal with deep roots in Indian craft and a finish that reads closer to antique gold than anything freshly burnished. The hoop silhouette anchors the form, wide enough at two inches (approximately 5 cm) to carry weight with presence, while the domed jhumka bell descends into a cascade of fine bead drops that move with every turn of the head. The Polki stones are set in closed-back fashion, giving each one a soft, diffused glow rather than sharp sparkle. At three-point-one inches (approximately 7.9 cm) in height and thirty-five grams in weight, these earrings are generous without being theatrical. For a daytime occasion, pair them with a raw silk kurta in ivory or terracotta and let the brass do its quiet talking. For a festive evening, they settle beautifully against a Benarasi blouse with a draped dupatta. The hoop fitting sits securely through a standard ear piercing, and the free-size closure needs no adjustment. Brass wears well when kept away from moisture; a soft cloth is all it takes to restore the warm, toasted finish these earrings carry so naturally.
