Description
There are courts that never quite fall silent, and this set carries an echo of them. Worked in brass and finished in the manner of the Jaipur ateliers, this necklace and earring set brings together two of North India's most exacting traditions: the flat-cut unfoiled Polki set in wax-backed Kundan bezels, each stone enclosed by burnished gold-toned foil that catches light without competing for it. The necklace rises to a height of just over fifteen centimetres (6.05 inches), its layered panels arranged in the stepped, ceremonial geometry associated with Rajasthani bridal craft. Each element is hand-pressed and set by karigars trained in the enclosing art of Kundan, where no prong intrudes and the stone appears simply held by gold itself. Pearl drops fall from the earrings, which measure four and a half centimetres tall by just under two centimetres wide (1.75 inches by 0.75 inches), lending the set its softest note. The complete set weighs eighty-three grams, a presence that is felt without being effortful. Wear this with a deep-toned Banarasi silk at a wedding reception, where the warm brass base reads as antique gold under candlelight. It sits with equal authority over the embroidered yoke of an Anarkali for a mehendi, anchoring the look without overshadowing the embroidery. The free-size necklace suits most neck lengths comfortably. Brass construction makes it resilient for occasional wear, and the Kundan-set panels hold their alignment well when stored flat and kept from moisture.
