Description
The lotus does not simply bloom here; it is set in light. Worked in copper and finished with the cold-setting discipline of Kundan, this bridal necklace and earrings set places the pink lotus at the centre of a tradition that has adorned brides from Jaipur's old city lanes to the havelis of Rajputana. Each petal is delineated by foil-backed Kundan stones, their vitreous surfaces catching and holding candlelight with the particular stillness that only hand-pressed setting can achieve. Pearl drops and bead fringes hang from the lower register of the necklace, lending movement and a softness that tempers the geometry of the setting. The earrings, measuring 3.3 inches (8.4 cm) in height, echo the lotus form without repeating it exactly. The necklace itself spans 12.4 inches (31.5 cm) in length and 5.2 inches (13.2 cm) in width, a generous, chest-filling spread appropriate to a full bridal drape. Wear it with a deep ruby silk Banarasi on the wedding morning, or pair it with an ivory and gold tissue lehenga where the pink of the stones becomes the singular note of colour. It reads equally well against the ivory of a Kanjeevaram. The set closes with an adjustable dori, allowing the necklace to sit precisely at the collarbone or rest lower against the chest. At 208 grams for the complete set, the weight is present but considered, confirming the density of true Kundan craft rather than hollow ornament.
