Description
There is a particular green that belongs only to peridot: warm, a little wild, like sunlight passing through a new leaf. Cut into neat tube beads, each piece roughly four millimetres across, these ninety-three beads are strung along a fourteen-and-a-third-inch (approximately thirty-six-centimetre) strand and together weigh a gentle ten grams. Peridot, one of the few gemstones that occurs in only a single colour, owes its olive-lime warmth to iron within its crystal structure; it has been valued across South Asia for centuries, appearing in the treasure hoards of Mughal ateliers and the personal collections of Rajput courts. The tube-cut silhouette here is deliberate: it maximises the stone's translucency, allowing light to travel through the length of each bead rather than simply reflecting off a faceted surface. The result is a strand that glows rather than sparkles, understated and organic in its character. Wear it alone against a silk tissue kurta in ivory or champagne, where the green reads as a composed accent rather than a statement. It works equally well layered over a white chanderi blouse paired with a Benarasi sari, grounding a look of considered festivity. Being free-size with a string closure, this strand suits most necklines without adjustment. At ten grams it sits lightly, making it comfortable for extended wear through an afternoon or evening. The natural variation in tone across the beads means each strand is, quietly, its own.
