Description

There is a particular green that belongs only to late monsoon light, and peridot carries it faithfully in every facet. These marquise-cut peridot beads, each measuring 2.5 by 5 mm, are sold in sets of eight, sized to thread, string or wire into your own considered design. The marquise silhouette, elongated and pointed at both ends, is among the oldest lapidary forms known to the subcontinent's gem trade, long favoured by the bead stringers of Jaipur's Johari Bazaar for the way it catches light at an angle rather than head-on. Peridot, a stone of volcanic origin and extraordinary translucency, yields this particular olive-to-lime green from its natural iron content alone, requiring no treatment to achieve its warmth. At this scale, eight beads offer enough material for a delicate bracelet strand, a pendant cluster, or a single repeating motif within a longer mala-style necklace. The colour sits naturally alongside uncut Polki gold settings or oxidised silver wire, bridging the antique and the contemporary without effort. Wear a completed strand against a deep forest-green Chanderi kurta for a tonal, considered daytime look. For evening, pair a peridot and silver bead necklace with an ivory Banarasi blouse where the stone's warmth reads against the weave. Each bead is free size in the sense that no clasp or closure is fixed; the form is entirely open to the maker's intention. At this small, precise scale, they layer, stack and graduate cleanly without bulk.
