Description

There is a particular quiet to green: the green of a peridot at noon, caught between sunlight and shadow. These hoop earrings are worked in sterling silver, the metal polished to a clean, cool brightness that lets the pale olive-lime of the peridot speak without competition. The stones are set within the hoop's frame in a manner that holds each gem close and secure, their characteristic yellow-green warmth a gentle counterpoint to silver's grey-white clarity. Peridot, one of the few gemstones that occurs in only a single colour, has been valued across the subcontinent for centuries, appearing in the treasure chests of Mughal courts and in the personal adornment traditions of western and southern India alike. At four grams, the earrings carry almost no weight on the lobe, and at two inches in height (approximately five centimetres), the hoop describes a generous arc without tipping into drama. Sterling silver at this gauge wears well, resisting the dullness that plated metals accumulate over time. Pair them with a silk chanderi kurta in ivory or sage for a festive afternoon; or wear them against a linen shirt and tailored trousers for an evening where you would like something considered rather than conspicuous.
