Description
Crimson and pearl: an old language spoken in brass, and worn at the brow. The necklace draws its grammar from the festive jewellery traditions of Rajasthan, where layered strands of shell pearl are married to deep red stones set in brass that has been worked and finished to read as burnished gold. The front end, measuring roughly 16.5 centimetres, cascades in tiers of pearl strand and red stone clusters, each cluster echoing the floral or teardrop motifs familiar to Jaipur's costume jewellery ateliers. The earrings, at approximately 8 centimetres in height and 3 centimetres in width, carry the same vocabulary downward: red stone at the crown, pearl drops at the hem. The mangtika, at just over 16 centimetres in length, extends the composition upward into a bindi-length pendant that rests at the centre parting with quiet authority. The full set weighs 120 grams, a presence that is noticeable but never burdensome. Wear this set with a silk or georgette lehenga in ivory, cream or deep wine for a sangeet or mehendi evening. It sits equally well against a chanderi kurta set for a festive daytime occasion where restraint and colour are both required. The necklace runs to 17.5 inches on its adjustable chain, accommodating a range of necklines comfortably. Brass construction keeps the set durable through a full day of celebration. Store away from moisture and direct light to preserve the finish.
