Description

There are feathers the eye never tires of following. The peacock feather has moved through Indian decorative arts for centuries, appearing in Mughal miniatures, on the borders of Benarasi silks, and at the throat of Meenakari pendants from Jaipur workshops where karigars still grind mineral pigments by hand. This lapel pin distils that lineage into a single, slender silhouette in warm-toned brass: the feather's central rachis rising to its full height of approximately 3.2 inches (8.1 cm), spreading to 1 inch (2.5 cm) at its widest point. The brass is worked and finished to hold the eye-spot motif with satisfying clarity. At just 7 grams, it carries the heft of considered craft without burden. Brass, long prized across Bengal and Rajasthan for its golden warmth and workability, lends this piece an antique quality that oxidised or lacquered finishes cannot replicate. Pin it to the lapel of a raw silk kurta at a literary evening, or secure it to the breast pocket of a linen blazer at a gallery opening where restraint reads as eloquence. It works equally well on a handwoven cotton dupatta folded into a stole, giving a daytime look quiet ceremony. One size suits all wearers. The butterfly-clasp pin closure holds firmly through a full day without loosening, and the brass develops a gentle patina over time that only deepens its character.
