Description
The peacock has always known how to wear colour without apology. This necklace set belongs to the Kundan tradition that found its most eloquent expression in the ateliers of Jaipur, where brass forms the structural foundation beneath a surface of carefully set white stones. Each peacock motif is built up in the Kundan manner: the stones pressed into a gold-toned foil setting, bordered by fine metal work that traces the bird's fanned tail and crested head with unhurried precision. The necklace sits at approximately eleven inches (27.9 cm) across, terminating in an adjustable chain that allows the collar to rest at the wearer's chosen depth. The jhumka earrings, at two and a half inches (6.3 cm) in height and one inch (2.5 cm) in width, carry the same peacock vocabulary downward in a graduated bell drop. The full set weighs 130 grams, a presence that reads as ceremonial without becoming burdensome. Wear this set with a deep jewel-toned tissue silk for a wedding sangeet, where the white stones catch candlelight cleanly. It translates equally well over a hand-block printed cotton kurta for a festive afternoon, lending formality without heaviness. The adjustable chain accommodates a range of necklines freely. The brass base is finished to resist tarnish under typical wear, and the jhumka hooks are standard, fitting most ear piercings without alteration. A set that earns its place in considered rotation.
