Description
There is a particular red that Jaipur keeps returning to, the red of lac and crushed ruby glass, of old havelis and festival windows. This oval-motif Kundan necklace and earring set is set in brass, finished in the manner of traditional Rajasthani Kundan work: foiled stones pressed flush into a raised gold-coloured bezel, each oval panel building a graduated lay across the collarbone. The deep red Kundan stones are surrounded by smaller accent settings, the whole composition reading as a single unbroken garland rather than a chain of separate units. Kundan as a craft belongs to the ateliers of Jaipur and Bikaner, where karigar families have for generations worked lac-core base metals with pressed foil and hand-set stones, achieving a richness that heavier precious metals rarely rival. The earrings, measuring approximately three centimetres high and one and a half centimetres wide, repeat the same oval vocabulary in miniature. The necklace spans fifteen centimetres across at its widest point and closes with an adjustable dori, the traditional fabric tie that allows the piece to sit at different necklines. Wear this set with a silk chanderi kurta in ivory or deep forest green, letting the red anchor the entire look. For a wedding guest appearance, pair it against a raw silk blouse under a Benarasi weave for a palette that needs nothing else. The complete set weighs sixty grams, comfortable for a full evening. The adjustable dori makes the necklace genuinely adaptable, and the brass base keeps the piece resistant to daily humidity without sacrificing its visual authority.
